The 8th edition of the Barcelona Asian Film Festival ended on Tuesday, December 8th, 2020. The festival was held successfully despite the complex conditions of cinema closures and social restrictions caused by the outbreak of COVID 19. Just like in previous editions, the Iranian cinema had a remarkable presence and received three main awards from the festival.
In the Official section, the film AFRICAN VIOLETS directed by Mona Zandi Haqiqi and written by Hamid Baba Beige received best script award. Furthermore, in the Discoveries section, the film DIAPASON directed by Hamed Tehran and written by Hossein Tehrani received best Script Award. Finally, in the Special section the film OLD MEN NEVER DIE by Reza Jamali received special mention.
It is worth mentioning that this edition of the Barcelona Asian Film Festival was held in a hybrid format (virtual and presencial), and for this reason, the festival, which was supposed to end in November, finally ended last night and after about a month. The closing ceremony ended with the Iranian film ZERO FLOOR (PILOT) directed by Ebrahim Ebrahimian.
The closing ceremony and awards ceremony were broadcasted online for the filmmakers and other participants. About 100 feature films from 25 Asian countries were screened during this period.
